Al Capone’s Bedroom
Added at 11:53am and filed under Uncategorized
Yesterday a wooden shelf ripped away from the wall and landed right here, on my computer chair. Yes, my ass had been parked here at the time. Yes, it hurt.
DIY in this household never goes well.
Most of yesterday afternoon consisted of M and I yelling at each other, me with the frustration of a wife who cannot convince her husband that he can actually do this, him with the annoyance of a husband who just wants his wife to get off his back and leave him to it. So that’s what I did. And that’s why I ended up with my files of video game Player’s Guides, stationery and old Q magazines on my forehead.
So as I sit here now, I’m staring at a gorgeously disfigured bedroom wall, the plasterwork looking like it either has some strange household measles or like Al Capone has been here with his machine guns – honestly, it looks like a firing wall. You see, not only did it fall down on me, it also took SIX ATTEMPTS to get it up, resulting in my lovely lilac wall being peppered with drilled-but-not-yet filled holes (and a fine covering of plasterboard dust everywhere). I look at this and I’m kind of glad we never got the blackout blind we bought for Sam’s room up – it would’ve fallen on his head and knocked the poor fella out.
I can’t believe that today rings the end of my summer vacation. Yup, this is it. No break now until Christmas. Christ, that’s depressing. If I had done something useful in it then maybe I wouldn’t feel so wasteful, but we didn’t – other than popping and buying a load of things like highchairs and toys and blackout blinds and shelves-that-fall-off on Tuesday, I can’t be certain that I’ve even left the house. Oh, wait. I did to get my fat-ass weighed on Thursday, didn’t I? I guess the only thing of note – and when I say note, please read Note-Of-Any-Significance-To-Me – is that I finally began tidying up s-c.net and added some skins and tidied up some of the older ones, as well as clearing up some of the errors and deadlinks. It’s hard work – the curse of too many skins, I guess – but I’m getting there. And with Daz’s security-tipped advice this morning, I also removed the striplashes from my tagbox. Go me. Go me for even knowing what the fuck a striplash is, you know?
Today we’re headed in Town, the shopping capital of Wales, to pick up Sam’s birthday presents for next week. Originally we’d planned not to take him (M was convinced that Sam’d “see” his presents and there’d be no surprises for him – took me awhile to convince him that Sam barely has the memory span of a goldfish, let alone total recall) but ho hum, what can you do when there’s no alternative? I guess it’s an excuse for M to look for those trainers he wanted and for me to pick up another audio book . . . OMG, I just loved listening to From a Buick 8 on my drive home from work. It totally rocked. :) Anyway, I’m digressing . . . so yeah, off we go, probably with another stop off at my parents’ house. My Dad’s still really bad with absolutely no improvement from a fortnight ago. The longer it lasts, the less inclined we are to think that this will go back on it’s own. But I don’t want him to have surgery. :( He just bought himself a Motorhome and everything . . . and yes, I’m aware of the randomness of that comment but if you know how much he and my mother have been enjoying themselves taking off each weekend, you’d understand where I’m coming from.
Just FYI, it was the tenth anniversary of the day that M and I met on Friday. We rowed the whole day. Nice to know that things haven’t changed much from a decade ago.
V xx

LMAO! XD Sorry, that just sounded so funny… Not the fact that a shelf fell over you but that phrase just… Hehe, it gave me a funny mental image of someone wrooming their ass on a chair. *giggles like a dork*
