The Day I Had A Surprise Package

More OMG. I received a parcel this morning. From Konami Japan.
I’m such a dork, but my hands are shaking as I type this. :P
There’s a story behind this. Ages ago, some of you may remember that I was approached by a guy, H, who putting together Akira’s personal website. A friend of Akira, he’d been scouring the web for any and every Yamaoka site written in English and happened upon my fanlisting. He asked if I’d help them with the English (at the time, it wasn’t Konami-controlled and therefore on a tight budget :P) and help spread the word of Yamaoka to the Western World. Pft. Like I’d say no.
In the end, the site never went live. Konami wanted control of the site and paid my friend for the design and content and then hosted the site themselves . . . failing to use my painstaking translations, the gets! (H is still apologising for that even now.)
Afterwards, H and I stayed in touch via email and swopped weak but enjoyable linguistic lessons, I teaching him English and he sharing Japanese. We talk about work and our families and our lives and it’s pretty much been that way ever since.
Last week I absently complained (yet again) about the dirge of Yamaoka information in English and bitched that I’d love to get the CD but am a Japanese-newbie with not enough language savvy to navigate iFuturelist’s order pages with confidence. He said he’d see what he could do, then got back in touch asking for a postal address.
And then this arrives.
I have to say that I’ve been incredibly fortunate when it comes to all things Silent Hill. Thanks to Dave’s persistence and the pair of us being jammy bastards and often just being in the right place at the right time, I’ve been fortunate enough to do a whack of things any SH fan would kill a Bubble Nurse to do. I’ve seen demos of the games before release, been to Press Events and have a plethora of SH goodies and collectables thanks to our colleagues and kind contacts. But this? This just fucking tops them all.
Arigato gozaimasu, tomodachi H-san! Arigato gozaimasu, Yamaoka-san!

OMG .. I wish I could see that trailer -_- damn 56k. oh well… I’m sure someone will rip it soon, anyway.

i realise this is almost like dissing the SH, but i’ve never had anything to do with it. Bar read your fan-based posts..

I’ll let you off, Jax & Jem; you’re not the only ones! But if you own a PS2, I suggest you hunt yourself down a pre-owned copy of Silent Hill 2. You’ll never regret it – it’s the most detailed, intense, heart-wrenching survivial-horror game you’ll ever see – and the OST is to die for.
Jax, OMG I hope it WON’T end up like RE. :P But, judging on the trailer, it looks like it has all the important elements from the games . . . so I’m trying to be positive!

Oh wow! That’s a neat little surprise. ^^ I have never played the Silent Hill games… But so many Lumi people are fans. O.o I wonder if I should give them a try.

That’s one cool freaking trailer! I’m not actually very familiar with Silent Hill {ducks from the throwing of items from fans}…but I’ll definately go and see it.

I wouldn’t be surprised if SH3 is Yamaoka’s personal favorite of the series.
