The Day Ian Died
Ian is dead. My £1100 (about $2200) computer is completely dead - and I mean that: it’s completely and utterly not working, refusing to boot, just screaming nasty beeps at me whenever I try - and it is less than 24hrs old.
My brother, a lifelong mac enthusiast and tech support, is stunned. Whereas I am not fucking amusing.
Edit 24/12/07: And, for the win? Apple Support are closed “in accordance with the holidays”. WTF? It isn’t a public holiday today. Which means that by the time I get to speak to someone about this shit crap machine of mine (BTW, the three beep alarm is, apparently, a signal that it’s a problem with the memory, which is potentially very fixable) I’ll be queuing for three thousand hours with the other poor fucks who get a Mac for Christmas and find out it doesn’t fucking work.
The photo in the entry below this one is mocking me. OH, FATE GOD, YOU! Hope your Christmas blows, you malevolent fucking prick.

Wow! Now that is unlucky! :( Are you going to be able to send it back? (Doesn’t help with it being Xmas, I’m sure!)

OMG! I was just admiring him and now he’s… dead?!! That is a HUGE bummer. :/

Bummer isn’t the word. I’m SSSSSSSSSSOOOO fucking ANGRY!
I have no choice but to send it back: my brother, who’s tech support at his company, can’t even get it to run in safe mode, or do a wipe and restore (he thinks it’s the firmware, whatevertf that is). It’s fucking dead - an ALARM goes off when it boots.
AAARGH.

That makes me really sad to hear. You aren’t supposed to have these kinds of problems on a mac! :(

Aren’t you just a chocolate-covered charmer, eh?

WTF???
any updates?
Sorry, Darling :(

I couldn’t believe what I was reading!
You will have to return it and they will need to give you another one, as that one can be considered what they call “dead on arrival”.
Don’t get fooled, sweetie. Demand a new one and not a repair.
That was extreme bad luck, but it happens sometimes. F had a problem with his MacBookPro and they had to replace the entire screen.
Mac’s are stable computers, but when they arrive it problems, there’s little to be done.
I’m so sorry… :(

To all the insensitive gits who are relishing in someone being over a grand and a computer down (with their “witty” Mac one-liners), that’s just not fucking neighbourly, is it?
Did Apple give you the nod for a replacement V, or will you have to wait til monday to find out? I’m sorry you’ve had such rotten luck - when my Dell first died, I remember (Jem’s) Karl saying to me something like “they’ll either fail early or run forever” - hopefully your replacement will be the latter now you’ve had the former.
Hugs

That’s just ridiculous, end of story.
I’m mad.

OMG V!!! I don’t believe it!! That is SOOOO horrible!!
God - your luck is awful. :( I have *exactly* the same iMac, down to every detail, and it runs like a dream. Your replacement will be awesome, it will…..I’m so sorry though! That sooo sucks! :(
Comment by sharon — 23 December, 2007 @ 10:27 pm
Well that sucks. How the hell can it break after only one day? Hope Apple support can sort it out, though it doesn’t help that it’s the holidays - with luck they won’t keep you waiting too long for a replacement.

I work for tech support at my job and we have overheating/power supply issues with iMac and Mac Minis, which is what it sounds like to me. Terrible luck though :(

So should I get a Mac when I get a new computer in 2008 or not? There aren’t that many places around where I live for tech support…but it sounds as if everyone loves their Macs. OMG. I am so confused. BTW, so sorry about Ian dying. RIP IAN.

Macs are just like anything else: they have their fans who will adore them no matter what, but in all honesty they are not fault-proof. PCs have more versatility and for an experienced computer user is often the only choice (due to the legal confines of closed architecture). Macs are user friendly, powerful, and generally very nice machines. They are the BMW of computers - but not perfect. Nothing is!
