The Bit About the Green-Eyed Monster

Just before going off to bed (as I type this, I’m in a dark room with no TV I was that ready to go up) I found myself at the Web Designer Rockstar Chart. I now want to hurl my pathetic, talentless carcass off of a very tall building.

There’s a company in that chart that was setup by a girl I went to University with. I always fucking hated her - her and her gorgeous cropped hair, porcelain skin and perfect fucking teeth. Now I know why. Bitch.

You’re kidding me, right? All these sites are awful. I don’t think I’ve ever waited so long to see such boring sites. Not only that but they’re impossible to use.

There’s nothing great about any of those sites and I wouldn’t go thinking you’re not good just because you know how to make a decent site.

Maybe I just have bad taste, but I’m telling you a person could stare at these sites for a half hour and not know what to click and/or do. What’s the point in being pretty and not functional.

Ooh, nice. I think I like the Un.titled one the best. :3

I took a class on building Flash web sites back in Spring ‘07 actually. It was fun to use, but the one major gripe I have with it is that I was thinking that it would be a pain in the bum to change the look/theme (i.e. background colors, text colors, positioning of the text, etc) without having to go through every file/frame you wanted to change and make the changes manually. I guess I’m too used to PHP templates/includes and stylesheets. :P Which is probably why I don’t use Flash as much any more.

(Although I’m thinking about taking it up again. Hmm…)

All right, sorry for rambling. I’ll stop now.

Dave: I think it’s less to do what they’re like (I don’t disagree with you, but there are some gorgeous sites tucked between the arty stuff), but more with the technical know-how. I feel like a three year old in a F1 race. It’s an utter incomprehension of how to get a site to DO that, let alone attempt to do it. :p

Noellium: I don’t like flash too much because of the accessibility aspects, but there’s no denying it can look purty . . .

Vixx, if you know PHP you should easily be able to do amazing technical stuff. It’s wrong to say you don’t have the talent, coz I’m sure you do. I just don’t think you have the time.

After all, there is a higher level on guitar hero that isn’t going to get completed if you’re off being a big techie geek :P

Ok, so she has a company with a poncey website - any idiot with enough wedge can buy a poncey website… Wonder who she goes home to at night? - Bet she hasn’t got a munchkin as cute as yours ;)

That said, I must admit that most of the time when I see/hear about people I used to know, my default reaction is to feel inferior/envious…

It’s all about the content. Sure, a lot of those sites are very well designed but to keep visitors coming back then you’ve got to keep the content fresh and interesting. That’s why your site will always be popular, not to mention the fact that your designs are totally unique :)

Anyway, whenever I hear about people that I went to school/college with I always feel relieved that they’re off doing their thing and aren’t still around to annoy me.

I don’t think they’re that great but like Vixx said they’re are some nice ones tucked away.

This is why I’m glad I went to a shit school and no uni.. everyone else I know of my age is either on the dole with several kids by different fathers or in a dead end job.

Probably a sadistic thing to take pleasure in it, but some of us have got to get it where we can!
