The Day There Were Some Changes … (21)

For the first time since I ported my entire personal site to FA.com about eighteen months ago, I can - albeit shyly - present to you a brand new default theme, tentatively entitled Caffeinated..

It’s always kind of scary presenting a brand new theme, but more so when a) you remove the default (particularly when the default always been popular) and b) present something that goes against your usual style. I’ve tried to keep the elements that people always comment on and seem to like, but this is actually something of a departure for me - so please, I beg you, go easy on me . . . I sweated blood over this to get it just right (the image map was beyond tricky, particularly as I wanted to keep it valid 1.1) so whilst critcism is always gratefully received, please be constructive in a don’t-make-me-blow-my-brains-out kinda way. :p

Curiously, although I’m missing a sidebar and don’t seem to have cluttered the rest of the page up with shite (at least, that’s my hope?), the only information that you now no longer have on the front page from the previous default theme is the switch-theme buttons. Personally, I don’t think they’re missed. :)

The only thing slightly screwy seems to be the comments page, and that’s because the entry text is inexplicably displaying beneath the comments - weird. Any ideas/suggestions as to why this is happening and how to fix it would be great, as would any general feedback, particularly if anything else is going apeshit in your browser. As always, feel free to comment or drop me a line via the feedback survey. Edit: Also have to fix the footer; since seeing the site on my work PC, it’s not quite sitting right. Will amend when I get home!

Oh, and before I forget - if you hate it and desperately want my original furious angel back, she hasn’t gone far. :)

Vox Crosspost Compatibility (1)

This is just a test post to ensure that my Vox Crossposter plugin is working correctly.

Ironic, considering I haven’t posted anything for three weeks (and arguably nothing of note for several years).

Anyhoo, cheerio - oh, and please friend me if you have a Vox account - I’m very lonely there . . .

New Theme: Notice Me (5)

Yes, I’m still on my brief hiatus, but the theme Notice Me came as I attempted to break my current layout block (how come I can design for others and not myself just lately?).

As always, let me know a) what you think and b) if you encounter any problems. I can’t make up my mind if I like it or not myself. The only bit I definitely big is the cheesy wallpaper!

Incidentally, this post isn’t supposed to be displaying on the front page, but the plugin doesn’t seem to be working properly. Weird.

FAQ Removed (2)

Thanks to continuous and aggressive hacking and hacking attempts, I’ve had to remove my FAQ section. Although the chance that it was a security exploitation was small, a chance is a chance no matter how minute it is.

I’m hoping to add it again in the future, but for now considered it gone. :(

Using WordPress As It’s Meant To Be Used (3)

I’ve spent the Easter weekend finally porting my static pages over to the warm and gentle confines of my WordPress installation. It took a little jiggling around and the addition of a few more plugins to help power some of the content (for instance, the autoformatting was driving me crazy and stopped some of the pages displaying as they should) but we’re finally there, the result being that you should actually see no difference whatsoever. Heh.

I’ve tested it as extensively as I can, but I always end up kinda lazy when it comes to trouble-checking. Therefore, if you come across a dodgy page or code, could you please post here and let me know? Thanks!

I’m still not much closer in sorting out the book review script. It’s angry with me and refuses to do as I say, particularly when I ask it to buddy up nicely to WP. I’ve gone ahead and added it, but it doesn’t yet fit seamlessly in the site’s design. I’m working on it though! :)

p.s. I’ve also upgraded to 2.0.2. Please let me know if anything seems screwy around here!
