The premise of the book had all the hallmarks of a brilliant read, with a truly interesting – and cynical – perspective on the world of reality TV and the mental health of some of the contestants.
Unfortunately, I really think Elton didn’t deliver. What promised to be a fantastic novel turned into a limping story with two-dimensional characters and a lazy ending.
Elton was for many years one of my favourite contemporary writers. It’s horrible to feel so disappointed with his last three offerings. :(
